Copyrights Background

A copyright protects the creative expression of a work that is recorded in a tangible medium, e.g. on paper, in sculpture, on a computer memory

A copyright grants you the exclusive right to reproduce, perform, and display a work and to prepare additional works based on the original.

Application Process:

  • Attorney prepares an application for registration which includes one or more copies of the work to be copyrighted
  • US Copyright Office reviews the application and issues a registration certificate


  • Application to Register a Copyright - approx. $400+
